Every card scores
No lineups and no bench, so all nine count. Here's what happens to a card over the playoffs.
Drafted
James Cook III, RB, BUF, drafted at pick 3.03
Every pick fills one of your team's nine slots. James Cook III went at pick 3.03.
Scoring
Saquon Barkley, RB, PHI, 81.20 points, still playing
Every game his NFL team plays counts. Saquon Barkley scored 37.20 in the Divisional round and 81.20 over 3 games through the Conference Championships.
Bye
Patrick Mahomes, QB, KC, on a bye
The Kansas City Chiefs were the AFC 1 seed, so they skipped the Wild Card round. Patrick Mahomes scored 0 that round and can play at most three games.
Out
Derrick Henry, RB, BAL, 45.00 points, eliminated
The Baltimore Ravens were eliminated in the Divisional round. Derrick Henry keeps his 45.00 points; he just has no more games.

Draft on your own time
A slow snake draft: everyone picks in turn over a few days, and the order reverses each round. Each pick gets 2, 4, 8 or 24 hours, and the clock stops from 1 to 8 a.m. Eastern. You get an email when you're on the clock, and if time runs out, autodraft picks for you.
Watch it score itself
No lineups to set and no waivers to work. Most total points after the Super Bowl wins the league. A tie goes to the higher Super Bowl score.
Built for the playoffs
Every game counts
Points from Wild Card weekend through the Super Bowl all add up, so a player who plays four games has more chances to score than one who plays one.
Nothing to manage
Draft well, then watch. There's no start/sit decision and no waiver wire.
Byes and eliminations are the game
The top seed in each conference skips the Wild Card round, so its players score 0 that round and can play at most three games. Every loss ends that NFL team's run, so picking players who'll play the most games is a big part of the strategy.
Free to play
Joining is always free, and so is running a league, with Standard, Half PPR or Full PPR scoring (PPR: points per reception). Leagues hold up to 12 teams. Premium is $25 per league, per season, and adds custom scoring, next-round projections, more than one team per person (extra teams are drafted automatically for now) and running more than one league a season.
The short version
- What is playoff best ball?
- A fantasy league that covers only the NFL playoffs. You draft your team, nine players, once, before Wild Card weekend. Every player you draft scores in every game his NFL team plays, from Wild Card weekend to the Super Bowl. No lineups, no bench: all nine count. There are no waivers and no trades. Most total points after the Super Bowl wins the league. A tie goes to the higher Super Bowl score.
- When does the draft happen?
- Drafts open Sun, Jan 10 and need to finish before Wild Card kickoff on Sat, Jan 16. The commissioner schedules the start time or starts the draft by hand. It's a slow draft, so nobody has to be online at the same time.
- Do I have to be online for the draft?
- No. Each pick gets 2, 4, 8 or 24 hours, whichever your commissioner chose, and you get an email when you're on the clock, plus a text or push alert if you turn them on. If the clock runs out, autodraft picks for you: the highest player in your queue who fits an open slot, or else the best available player who fits.
